Greek Islands Greece and Turkey aboard Le Levant |
| 8 Days / 7 Nights•July 16,30 •Aug. 13, 2012 |
 |
Le Levant offers you unusual ports of call in the Greek Cyclades Islands, frst port of
call being the picture postcard scenery of Milos and Mykonos with their signature
windmills and tangle of whitewashed streets. Further south the sombre shape of
Santorini stands out against the azure blue sky, a natural port dominated by impressive
cliffs. Your cruise then continues to the tiny island of Tinos where picturesque villages
perch high on mountains covered by luscious vegetation. Indeed, the houses here
have preserved all the charm and authenticity of a traditional architecture. Leave the
turquoise colours of Greece for Turkish shores to discover the superb Pergamum site
which was once a serious rival to Alexandria and Rome.
ATHENS
It was at the height of its cultural achievements and imperial power in the fifth century B.C. during the time of Pericles. The main landmark of Athens is the acropolis (412 ft/126 m high), which dominates the city and on which stand the remains of the Parthenon, the propylaea, and the Erechtheum.
SANTORINI
It has been said that the sunsets in Santorini are the best in the world. From the Caldera breathtaking views of the volcano & neighbouring islands. From the east, miles of dark sandy or pebbled beaches.
MYKONOS
This is the Ibiza of Greece. A beautiful island in the Cyclades, which looks just like the postcards: white little houses with flowers and blue windows and doors, hand painted streets, windmills, pigeon keepers, chimneys, lots of little churches and wonderful restaurants and cafes.
DIKILI
A small and peaceful port on the shores of the Aegean, Dikili has retained its picturesque charm. From here we head out to explore Pergamum, one of Turkey’s finest archaeological sites, not just because of the many and varied ruins but also for its splendid hilltop location. At one time a serious rival to Alexandria and Rome, Pergamum offers visitors the rich heritage of its architecture in an intimate setting.
ISTANBUL
Located at the crossroads of Europe in the West and Asia in the East, Istanbul boasts some of the world’s most magnificent architecture such as Agia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Topkapi Palace with its treasures of the Ottoman Empire.
